Tragedy struck in Los Angeles as “General Hospital” star Johnny Wactor was fatally shot in what police believe was a botched theft. The actor, known for his role as Brando on the beloved soap opera, was just 37 years old.
Authorities say the incident occurred while Wactor was reportedly attempting to thwart a group of three men from stealing the catalytic converter from his car. The confrontation led to gunfire around 3am on Saturday near the intersection of Hope Street and Pico Boulevard.
David Shaul, Wactor’s long-time talent agent, expressed his devastation over the loss, stating to Variety, “Johnny Wactor was a spectacular human being. Not just a talented actor who was committed to his craft, but a real moral example to everyone who knew him.”
“He represented the epitome of hard work, tenacity, and an unwavering ‘never give up’ attitude. He was not only our client but our dear friend, and his absence will leave an irreplaceable void in our hearts,” Shaul added.
According to reports, after one suspect shot Wactor, the group fled the scene. Police and paramedics responded promptly, but despite their efforts, Wactor was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.
His mother, Scarlett Wactor, shared with NBC4, “I just don’t understand what a senseless coward act by that person.”
Details about the suspects remain scarce as the investigation continues.
The theft of catalytic converters has become increasingly common due to the valuable metals they contain, which can fetch a high price on the black market.

Beyond daytime TV, Wactor’s career included appearances in “Westworld,” “The OA,” “Station 19,” and “NCIS.” He also contributed to various short films, showcasing his versatile acting skills.
