George Clooney has shared the guiding principle he adheres to in his marriage to Amal Clooney.
The 64-year-old actor tied the knot with international human rights lawyer Amal, 47, in 2014. The couple welcomed twins, Alexander and Ella, into their family.
Clooney has previously discussed his marriage and the circumstances of his first meeting with Amal in 2013.
“I wasn’t really in the market for being a dad. Then I met Amal and we fell in love,” he expressed to the New York Times. “I have to say that, after that, everything made sense.”
Initially, Clooney doubted his chances with Amal, assuming their age difference would be a barrier.
After a discussion with his wife, Clooney disclosed a rule he now abides by: he refrains from kissing other women on screen for film roles.
“I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did, ‘OK, well, I’m not kissing a girl anymore,'” Clooney shared with the Daily Mail. “When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife. I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys.’
“I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number.”
Clooney recounted his initial encounter with Amal to the New York Times.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ Then I didn’t really think I’d have much of a chance with her because I was 17 years older and she seemed to have everything she needed,” he remembered.
In a previous interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Clooney elaborated on his marriage and commented on Amal’s humor and intelligence.
He said: “I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart. She probably thought I was old.
“Then she sent some pictures from when she was here, and we were writing each other, emailing, talking, mostly about what was going on in each other’s lives, and over a period of time it became clear we were more than just friends.”
The Oceans 11 star spoke to E! News in September 2024 about how he tries to shield his successful career from his children.
“I don’t want them to for the most part,” Clooney admitted, mentioning his uncertainty about how to respond when his children inquire about his profession.
“But they did say to me one day when they came home from school, ‘What’s ‘famous?’ Which we didn’t want to explain,” Clooney added.
In the same conversation, Amal mentioned that Alexander and Ella recognize that their father is an actor.
