George Clooney, a renowned figure in Hollywood, along with his wife Amal, has made the choice to relocate their family to France for the upbringing of their children, a decision that seems to have displeased Donald Trump.
The Clooneys concluded 2025 by attaining French citizenship, a privilege bestowed upon them by the French government.
In an interview with Esquire, Clooney elaborated on their decision, emphasizing his desire to shield his children, Ella and Alexander, from the intrusive nature of paparazzi in the United States. He stated, “I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
Clooney believes his children enjoy a ‘much better life’ in France, a sentiment that seemingly provoked a personal jab from US President Trump on Truth Social following the news.

Trump remarked: “Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France, which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden.”
Clooney, in turn, has not held back his views on Trump. In a recent Variety interview conducted before the new year, he expressed his perspective on the current environment.
Describing it as a ‘very trying time’, Clooney said, “It can depress you or make you very angry. But you have to find the most positive way through it. You have to put your head down and keep moving forward because quitting isn’t an option.”
He also acknowledged that he and Trump once moved in similar social circles, mentioning that he ‘knew him very well’ prior to Trump’s presidency.
“He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon,” Clooney recounted. “I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball. Well, he was. That all changed.”

Despite any previous camaraderie, Trump’s recent comments suggest a lack of affection towards Clooney, as indicated in his continued Truth Social post.
Trump alleged that Clooney received ‘more publicity’ for his political comments than for his ‘very few, and totally mediocre, movies’.
For context, Clooney has appeared in over 40 films and has earned two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for Syriana in 2005 and Best Picture as a producer for Argo in 2012.
Nevertheless, Trump claimed, “He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics.”
Trump concluded his comments with his signature slogan: “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
