Girlfriend Invests Thousands and Sacrifices Career for Love, Only to Face Heartbreak

What would you be willing to give up for love? Financial security? Your professional aspirations? Perhaps your improv group? One woman poured everything into her relationship, but after more than three years, her partner chose to end things by claiming they were ‘incompatible’—via a breakup note, no less.

Jillian Lavin, who goes by Spritely on TikTok, gained viral attention after she composed a song about the unexpected collapse of her three-and-a-half-year relationship, which she described as a shocking experience.

Accompanied by a photo montage of their relationship, which garnered over 2.3 million views, Jillian recounted how everything seemed perfect until her partner, whom she referred to as a ‘farm boy,’ expressed a desire to relocate from their Los Angeles home to be closer to his family in Texas.

She sacrificed her career, said a tearful farewell to her improv troupe, and spent a staggering $7,000 on movers, she shared with New York Magazine’s The Cut. She believed it was ‘so worth it for the love of your life that wants a future with you / Because he said so’.

Yet, her partner did not prove to be trustworthy, as only two months into living in Texas, he ended the relationship with a note, stating they were ‘incompatible’.

Speaking with The Cut, Jillian explained she initially met her ex in eighth grade when they were pen pals. It wasn’t until they were both 25 that they reconnected, and after six months, he moved to California.

Jillian admitted she ‘always knew’ he wasn’t suited for life in Los Angeles, which led to their move to Texas as they discussed their future plans.

She remarked, “I thought we were taking the next step and, in a year, he’s going to propose.”

The financial cost of the move was considerable, but what stung the most was his ‘short f*****g note’ that said, “As special as you are, I just don’t see a future with you, and I’m sorry that I made you move here, but I hope in time, you can forgive me.”

Jillian dismissed the idea of another woman or outside influences, attributing his decision to his being ‘out of touch with his emotions’.

Now in the process of picking up the pieces of her ‘shattered’ life at her mother’s home in Florida, she has found solace in the support from millions across the globe who have shared similar breakup stories.

She shared, “The comments have been very encouraging, and I definitely feel a lot of love and support.

“This has happened to so many people.

“I’m proud of myself for taking the leap and moving to Texas with him. I think that’s a strength, and I think it’s really sad that so many women have been punished for their strength and their faith and commitment to love instead of rewarded for it. It’s a shame.”

While she has blocked her ex, Jillian did send him a ‘ten-page dissertation on the demise of our relationship’, but has not received a response.
