The nominees for the 2026 Golden Globes have been revealed, but a significant new addition is causing quite a stir.
As one of Hollywood’s most anticipated events, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards is set for January 11.
The ceremony will once again take place in Los Angeles, with comedian Nikki Glaser returning as host for the second consecutive year.
On Monday, December 8, actors Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall announced the movies and TV shows in contention for this year’s awards.
The nominations are chosen by what the organization describes as ‘an independent body of international journalist voters’.
Leading the pack is the action-thriller One Battle After Another, which has secured nine nominations including best picture, director, and screenwriter.
This film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, features Leonardo DiCaprio playing a washed-up ex-revolutionary who must return to action when an old enemy comes back to target him and abduct his daughter.

Sentimental Value, directed by Joachim Trier, received eight nominations, with Sinners earning seven. Hamnet has six nominations, and both Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good garnered five each.
On the television front, The White Lotus leads with six nominations, while Stephen Graham’s standout performance in Adolescence earned five nods. Disney’s Only Murders in the Building and Apple TV’s Severance both received four nominations.
This year, the awards are also acknowledging another medium.
A new category has been introduced to honor podcasts, although some social media users are questioning this addition.
The Golden Globes organization stated that the podcast award aims to acknowledge ‘the quality, creativity, audience engagement and impact’ that podcasts have achieved.

Several notable omissions have also been noted, despite some films receiving nominations in expected categories.
Wicked: For Good received multiple nominations for acting and music, yet surprisingly was not included in the Best Picture category.
Director Kathryn Bigelow was notably absent from the Best Director nominees for her work on Netflix’s thriller House of Dynamite.
Actress Kristin Scott Thomas did not receive a nomination for Slow Horses, despite the series and Gary Oldman being recognized.
In the television categories, The Last of Us was largely overlooked, with only Bella Ramsey receiving a nomination for Best Actress.
In an unexpected move, Joe Rogan’s podcast did not make it into the new Best Podcast category, despite The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) being a major success across platforms such as Spotify, Apple, and YouTube. The JRE was Spotify’s most listened-to podcast of 2025, attracting approximately 11 million listeners per episode across platforms.
