The largest Syrian city of Aleppo is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is considered one of the oldest inhabited cities of the world. But an ongoing military confrontation between extremist militants and the Syrian government has terrorized the entire country. The resulting destruction has killed thousands of people and laid waste to the architecture of Aleppo.
