GTA 6 Fans Are Paying eBay Scalpers Absurd Prices Despite Pre-Orders Still Being Available

Some Grand Theft Auto 6 buyers are paying far more than the official asking price on eBay for pre-orders, even though the game is still widely available at normal retail cost through approved sellers.

Pre-orders for Rockstar Games’ next GTA entry went live on 25 June. The publisher has set the Standard Edition at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition is priced at $99.99. That more expensive version comes with a bundle of bonus vehicles, weapons, clothing and other extras tied into Jason and Lucia’s story. Meanwhile, everyone who pre-orders either edition receives the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes throwback-themed items inspired by earlier parts of the series.

The game is due out on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has also said pre-loading will start on 12 November, allowing players to have it installed ahead of launch.

What makes the resale prices especially odd is that the physical version is not a standard disc release. Instead, the boxed edition contains only a download code, so there is none of the usual scarcity associated with limited physical stock or collectible discs.

Even so, completed eBay sales show that some people have chosen to pay a premium to secure the same pre-order through resellers instead of purchasing directly from official storefronts. In practice, these listings appear to be selling nothing more than access to an ordinary preorder confirmation or reservation, not a rare physical item.

One completed listing covering a PS5/Xbox Series X|S pre-order sold for $138.20, with another $17.03 charged for delivery. A separate PS5 presale listing in the US went for $120 plus $9.53 postage. Other completed sales show the standard PS5 version selling for $87.90, $93.22 with $20.47 delivery, and $101.19, all noticeably above the confirmed $79.99 retail price. The Ultimate Edition has also appeared above its official price, with one listing selling for $101.19 compared with Rockstar’s $99.99 price point.

These listings seem to be ordinary pre-orders rather than hard-to-find stock, which makes the higher prices harder to explain. Anyone can currently place the same order through Rockstar-backed stores without spending extra, and there is no scarcity premium in the way there would be for a truly limited physical release.

Players can still pre-order GTA 6 through official digital outlets such as the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. When boxed editions become available, they will not contain a disc. Rockstar plans to make the physical version available from 12 November to tie in with pre-loading, but buyers should understand that the package will simply provide a redeemable code for the digital version.

Rockstar confirmed as much in its pre-order details for physical editions, stating plainly that a disk will not be included in the box.
