Gunman Blasts California Newsroom With Barrage of Bullets in Terrifying Night Attack

A California television station was struck by gunfire for the second time in four days early Tuesday morning, leaving staff shaken but unharmed as police hunt for the shooter.

Bakersfield Police are investigating back-to-back shootings at the KBAK/KBFX studios, with ten bullets fired into a conference room and an office last Friday followed by additional rounds early Tuesday. No employees were injured in either attack, and the perpetrator remains at large.

Sinclair, Inc. Spokesperson Jessica Belluci confirmed the company is working closely with investigators. “We are cooperating fully with the Bakersfield Police Department as it investigates a shooting incident at our KBAK/KBFX studios Friday evening,” she said.

“Thankfully, no one was injured. The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are taking appropriate steps to ensure a safe and secure workplace. We appreciate the efforts of local law enforcement as the investigation continues,” Belluci added.

Surveillance footage captured a black vehicle pulling up to the station and lingering before muzzle flashes erupted from the driver’s side window. The car then sped away, leaving the building damaged but occupants untouched.

Weekend anchor and reporter Shelby Martin addressed the attacks in an Instagram post Tuesday morning. “I am very grateful that my colleagues are safe and nobody was hurt in Friday’s shooting at the station,” she wrote.

“We will continue to provide updates on the air and online,” Martin continued.

The twin attacks have rattled the Bakersfield newsroom, which was still processing the first incident when the second round of gunfire struck. Police have not determined whether the two shootings are connected.

The station, owned by Sinclair, Inc., serves the Bakersfield market as a CBS and FOX affiliate. Its newsroom has continued broadcasting through the investigation.
