Gwen Stefani has recently highlighted the significant role a ‘third party’ plays in keeping her marriage to Blake Shelton contented.
After their individual divorces, Stefani and Shelton began their relationship in 2015 and tied the knot in 2021. They initially crossed paths on The Voice in 2014 as coaches during the show’s seventh season.
At that time, an insider informed People: “Blake and Gwen have begun dating. They’ve been supporting each other through a difficult time and they’re really happy together.
“Everyone is thrilled because they’re both incredibly nice people.”
Ten years later, their bond remains strong, and the ‘Hollaback Girl’ artist has shared her insight. For them, the secret lies in a ‘third party,’ which for them is God.
During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, when asked about the ‘best advice she’s ever received on love,’ she mentioned: “Best advice would probably be, make sure you have a third party,” while gesturing upwards.
Stefani has been vocal about her faith for quite some time and even endorsed the Catholic prayer app Hallow during the festive season.
In the discussion, she also described her domestic life with Shelton.
“I have the dogs right here; we have two couches … Blake’s on that couch and we’re like, ‘Hi’,” she said.
“I would sit next to him but he’s gigantic and we don’t fit anywhere.”
Stefani is a mother to three sons from her previous marriage, and Shelton has embraced his role as their stepfather.
He decided to step down as a coach from The Voice in 2022 to dedicate more time to family responsibilities, despite not having biological children.
Shelton shared with People: “Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously. The kids see me as a very important person in their life.
“If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again.”
During her time on The Drew Barrymore Show, Stefani also participated in some rapid-fire questions, revealing a surprising choice for her favorite love song.
“Shania Twain, ‘Still the One’ … that’s a perfect song,” she remarked.
At 55, she also admitted to preferring a ‘date night in,’ saying, “I’m literally like — couch, blanket, cookies, chips.”
