Gwyneth Paltrow opens up about filming intimate scenes with Timothée Chalamet

Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about filming numerous intimate scenes with Timothée Chalamet in the movie Marty Supreme, expressing initial concerns over their age difference.

During a Q&A session in California, the 53-year-old Goop founder revealed her worries about Chalamet possibly feeling uncomfortable filming intimate scenes with someone older, though she noted the Call Me By Your Name star had no such reservations.

In Marty Supreme, Paltrow plays a retired actress involved in a passionate affair with Marty, portrayed by Chalamet, as he aims to triumph in the British Open table tennis tournament.

In a particularly daring scene directed by Josh Safdie, their characters engage in an encounter in a park, only to be interrupted by law enforcement.

During the Q&A with Demi Moore, Paltrow explained: “He was 27 or 28, and I was 50-whatever, and, I mean, it’s weird.”

Despite the initial discomfort, both actors executed their roles professionally and effectively.

Paltrow continued: “And I [thought], ‘Oh, if it’s weird for me, then it’s going to probably really weird for [him],’ but actually, it was fine. It wasn’t that weird.”

The Shakespeare in Love actress praised Chalamet for being a talented and confident collaborator, as he has been celebrated for his role as table tennis prodigy Marty Reisman.

“He’s so brilliant and committed and comfortable and confident,” she reportedly told PEOPLE.

Paltrow admitted that her own lack of recent acting experience made the intimate scenes feel more intimidating.

She commented: “It was a lot of sex scenes … and I was sort of worried about it too, just having not done all that kind of thing in so long, but it was very comfortable, and it was fine.”

After filming, Paltrow realized another concern: her youngest son’s reaction to the movie.

She recalled telling Moore about her son Moses, 19, watching the scenes, exclaiming: “Oh my God! My poor son.”

Paltrow, who has two children, Moses and Apple, 22, with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, mentioned: “Can you imagine when he came to the premiere in LA? He wanted to die.”

In a separate appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Myers, the Avengers: Endgame star shared that her son found the scenes difficult, covering his face during the more passionate moments.

This became evident during filming when photographers caught Paltrow and Chalamet sharing a kiss in Central Park, likely for the scene where they are interrupted by the police.

While her daughter Apple was supportive, her son was less so, with Paltrow stating: “My daughter thought it was very bad-a** and my son was like, ‘Oh, my God, Mom’. He was like, ‘This is too much..'”

Despite the family dynamics, audiences have embraced the film, with Marty Supreme breaking A24’s box office records since its December 2025 release, earning over $100 million globally.
