Gypsy Rose Blanchard Slams ‘Gossip’ Surrounding Ex-Fiancé Ken Urker’s Death and Says ‘Be Kind’

Gypsy Rose Blanchard has broken her silence on the death of her ex-fiancé Ken Urker.

The 35-year-old shared a pointed message on Instagram Thursday, one week after Urker was found dead at his Louisiana home on his 34th birthday. “Your gossip could be the darkest time in someone’s life,” she wrote on the platform.

Blanchard accompanied her words with a picture of a bouquet of roses and an envelope addressed to Urker. She tagged the post “#kenanslaw,” the name of an online harassment petition she launched in the days following his death.

The Lafourche Parish Public Information Officer confirmed to reporters that Urker was “found dead upon arrival” last Thursday. Police stated they “found no evidence of foul play” while noting the death investigation remains active. A police report obtained by outlets revealed drug paraphernalia and a gun were present at the scene.

Blanchard had claimed on social media shortly after the news broke that Urker died of a suspected overdose.

The petition Blanchard started last weekend asserts Urker faced an “overwhelming amount of online scrutiny” and “targeted harassment and cyberbullying” before his death. She has insisted the proposed law “is about changing the way social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment,” and “not about silencing criticism or taking away anyone’s freedom of speech.”

Urker’s passing “has made me determined to turn pain into purpose,” Blanchard wrote on Instagram. “I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening.”

Blanchard and her 1-year-old daughter Aurora attended a private memorial service for Urker in Louisiana on Saturday, according to reports. Urker’s sister Autumn, who has publicly accused Blanchard of lying about details surrounding his death, was reportedly not present.

The couple’s relationship had ended roughly one month before Urker’s death. A source familiar with the situation said the split stemmed from Urker’s mental health struggles. “She missed him. She wanted him back, obviously, and he just wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” the source said. “His mentality of mental health wasn’t good for the past few months.” Their final text exchanges concerned their daughter, who will turn 2 in December.

Blanchard and Urker first connected in 2017 while she was incarcerated for her role in the murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. They became engaged the following year but separated in 2019. Blanchard later married Louisiana teacher Ryan Scott Anderson in June 2022, filing for divorce in 2024 after her prison release. She subsequently rekindled her romance with Urker.

Anderson, Blanchard’s ex-husband, has also spoken publicly about Urker’s death, telling outlets he does not believe Blanchard was involved in the circumstances surrounding it.

Autumn Urker has continued to challenge Blanchard’s account of events, accusing her of “lies” in the aftermath of her brother’s death.

Blanchard’s Thursday post did not directly address these accusations, instead keeping focus on her broader message about online behavior. The petition drive represents her most organized response to date, converting personal loss into legislative advocacy.

The circumstances of Urker’s final months paint a picture of a relationship strained by mental health challenges, with Blanchard seeking reconciliation even as the couple remained apart. Their daughter Aurora now remains the lasting connection between them.

Police have not announced any findings that would alter the initial assessment of no foul play, though the investigation continues.

Blanchard’s advocacy push comes as she navigates both public scrutiny and private grief, using her platform to call for systemic changes she argues might have helped Urker.

Aurora will turn 2 in December.
