Gypsy Rose Blanchard Urges Fans to Sign Online Harassment Petition Honoring Late Fiancé Ken Urker and Turn ‘Pain Into Purpose’

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is campaigning for new online harassment legislation following her fiancé’s death.

The 35-year-old reality star launched a petition Sunday for what she is calling “Kenan’s Law,” named after Ken Urker, who was found unresponsive at a Louisiana home on his 34th birthday on Oct. 1. Blanchard announced the effort in an Instagram post, framing it as a direct response to the torrent of digital abuse she says Urker endured before he died.

“Before his passing, Ken experienced an overwhelming amount of online scrutiny and what we believed crossed the line into targeted harassment and cyberbullying,” Blanchard wrote on Instagram. “Reports were made across multiple platforms, and far too often, the response was simply: ‘No violation.'”

Urker was reportedly discovered by a family member after he failed to respond when Blanchard texted him “happy birthday” that morning, as previously reported.

Blanchard detailed what she sees as a fundamental flaw in how social media companies evaluate abuse complaints. “One post viewed alone may not tell the whole story—but hundreds of posts, videos and comments directed at one person can reveal a pattern that deserves meaningful review,” she penned on Instagram.

The “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up” alum drew a sharp distinction between legitimate criticism and what she characterized as dehumanizing harassment. “This is not about silencing criticism or taking away anyone’s freedom of speech. Public figures can and should be criticized,” she wrote. “But public figures are still human beings, and fame should never erase someone’s humanity.”

Blanchard described the proposed law as focused on “changing the way social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment.”

The petition push marks Blanchard’s most public advocacy effort since Urker’s death. She indicated that her grief has crystallized into political action. “I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening,” she shared on Instagram.

She added: “Please sign and share the petition to support Kenan’s Law. Fame does not erase humanity. A pattern cannot always be understood one post at a time.”

Blanchard’s own history with public scrutiny is well-documented. She served more than eight years in prison for her role in the 2015 murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who had subjected her to years of fabricated illnesses and medical abuse. Gypsy Rose was granted parole in December 2023 and has since built a significant social media following while navigating a complex personal life in the public eye.

Her relationship with Urker predated her prison release; the two had been engaged before her incarceration, though she later married Ryan Anderson in 2022 while still behind bars. That marriage ended, and she rekindled her relationship with Urker following her parole. The couple announced their engagement in April 2024.

Blanchard signed off her Sunday appeal with a simple directive: “In honor of Ken, I am asking for your support for Kenan’s Law. 🤍”
