Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s estranged husband is now facing the necessity of taking a paternity test to confirm the father of his estranged wife’s unborn child.
Last month, the former convict revealed that she is expecting her first child, just a few months after her release from prison.
Blanchard had been serving a decade-long sentence for second-degree murder due to the death of her abusive mother, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard.
She served only seven years of her sentence and was released in December 2023.
During her time in prison, the 33-year-old married Ryan Anderson in July 2022. The couple made several public appearances together following her release last year, but their relationship hit a rough patch, leading to their separation just three months into her new life outside prison.
Blanchard has since rekindled her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Ken Urker, who is believed to be the father of her unborn child.
Nevertheless, Anderson has been asked to undergo a paternity test to confirm that Urker is indeed the father and not him.
Speaking during a TikTok livestream on Saturday (August 10), Anderson stated: “I have to get a DNA test. I don’t have a choice.”
Expressing his frustration, the estranged husband added: “I have to take a DNA test for court. The way the timeline matches up — I don’t think it’s mine, but I don’t know.
“The DNA test is going to prove it. Crazier things have happened. I just don’t know. I have my thoughts and I have my opinions.”
According to Louisiana State Law, Anderson would have to be listed as the baby’s father if the child is born before their divorce is finalized – unless a paternity test proves otherwise.
The law outlines, as per People: “If the mother is married to someone other than the biological father when the child was conceived or has been divorced for less than 300 days at the time of birth, the husband/ex-husband shall be the presumed father, unless paternity is established for the biological father.”
Apparently, the law aims to ‘protect’ children.
Louisiana attorney Beau Brock explained to the outlet: “All the laws in Louisiana concerning paternity are designed to protect the child and make sure the child has a father and a mother to provide for them. So that presumption can be overcome by DNA and that’s what people have to do.”
Over the weekend, Blanchard and Urker hosted a gender reveal party and shared that they are expecting a daughter.
The expectant mother wrote on Instagram: “The moment y’all have been waiting for… It’s a girl! Ken and I are over the moon and are so excited to start our family.”
