Haliey Welch, known as the ‘Hawk Tuah girl,’ has spoken for the first time since taking a break from social media, sharing what her boyfriend said after he incurred a significant loss in her cryptocurrency venture.
If you were paying attention last year, you would recall that Haliey Welch gained fame with the ‘hawk tuah’ and ‘spit on that thang’ video.
Yes, that one.
Recently, Welch has stayed out of the limelight following her involvement in a cryptocurrency controversy.
The initial video that made Welch a sensation allowed her to leave her job and launch a podcast, Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch, but she has been relatively quiet since then.
In late 2024, she capitalized on her fame by entering the crypto world with a currency called ‘$HAWK token’.
The token surged to a value of $490 million but then dramatically collapsed, with CoinTelegraph reporting a drop of more than 90 percent.
This downturn resulted in significant financial losses for those who had invested heavily in the token.
Although Welch was not directly named in the lawsuits that followed, she has faced substantial online backlash in recent weeks.
However, the viral personality has returned with her podcast Talk Tuah, and an episode featuring FaZe Clan’s founder Banks has been ‘leaked’ on Twitter.
In this podcast, Welch discusses her boyfriend Kelby Blackwell, widely known as Pookie online.
“Pookie lost money too,” Welch revealed.
“He said, ‘How you going to take my money’? He still gives me s*** all the time, he says, ‘I wish I had my $300 back.'”
During the podcast, Welch elaborated on how the idea was presented to her as a ‘long-term coin’ that promised to ‘change the way everybody thinks about crypto’.
She expressed: “And I feel really bad for all the people that got affected by it. And it just didn’t go the way I planned.”
Continuing in the conversation, the social media star identified her ‘biggest mistake’ as trusting an acquaintance of a friend to manage the crypto project.
“I probably should have looked into him a little bit more,” she noted.
Welch also mentioned that the individual, who remained unnamed, seemed ‘a little bit weird’ on the launch day, which raised her suspicions.
