Hayley Williams has revealed that Morgan Wallen was the muse for the contentious ‘racist country singer’ lyric in her recent album.
Williams’ solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, released earlier this year, stirred conversation with the line “I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar.”
Fans have long speculated about the identity of the ‘racist country singer,’ and Williams has now clarified her intent.
In a conversation on The New York Times Popcast, the 36-year-old artist stated: “It could be a couple, but I’m always talking about Morgan Wallen.”
She further expressed: “I don’t give a s***.”
Williams even challenged Wallen to a public confrontation, stating: “Find me at Whole Foods b***h, I don’t care.”
Both artists hail from Tennessee, with Wallen owning a bar in Nashville.
Williams has previously voiced her disapproval of the establishment.
Requests for comment have been sent to Wallen’s representatives.
Wallen has faced criticism in recent times after his record label suspended him following a video where he used a racial slur was released by TMZ.
His music was temporarily taken down from platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, and Wallen later issued an apology.
In a statement to TMZ, he expressed: “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back.”
He added: “There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologise for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Earlier this year, Wallen sparked controversy by abruptly leaving the stage during the credits of Saturday Night Live.
He was seen walking offstage immediately after his performance, surprising the cast and audience.
Wallen exited past the cameras and through the crowd, leaving guest host, actor Mikey Madison, alone on stage.
This deviated from the norm where guests typically remain onstage and socialise until the show concludes.
In October 2020, during the pandemic, Wallen faced backlash and issued an apology after he was filmed violating social distancing guidelines at parties.
He acknowledged: “My actions this past weekend were pretty shortsighted and they have obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams.”
