Amanda Bynes gained prominence as a child star in the late 1990s, featuring in popular Nickelodeon programs such as “All That” and “The Amanda Show.”
Despite her early success, Bynes decided to step away from acting at the age of 24, following her role in the 2010 film “Easy A” with Emma Stone.
She announced on social media, “Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem. If I don’t love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore, so I’ve stopped doing it. I know 24 is a young age to retire, but you heard it here first.”
After leaving the entertainment industry, Bynes faced challenges with substance abuse and her mental health.
In August 2013, during a period in which her mental health issues were particularly severe, her parents sought legal permission to place her under conservatorship at the age of 25.

A conservatorship is a legal arrangement where a guardian is appointed to manage the affairs of an individual unable to make their own decisions, often used for those with serious mental health conditions or dementia.
In 2022, the court decided to terminate her conservatorship.
Bynes expressed her gratitude to her supporters through a statement shared with People, saying, “Following today’s decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for their love and well wishes during this time.”
“I would also like to thank my lawyer and my parents for their support over the last nine years.”

Her abrupt departure from acting left many curious about the reasons behind her decision to retire at such a young age.
In a 2018 interview with PAPER, Bynes revealed that her negative reaction to her performance in “Easy A” contributed to her decision.
“I literally couldn’t stand my appearance in that movie and I didn’t like my performance. I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it,” she recounted.
“I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason it really started to affect me. I don’t know if it was a drug-induced psychosis or what, but it affected my brain in a different way than it affects other people. It absolutely changed my perception of things.”

Since moving on from acting, Bynes has directed her attention towards new ventures and interests.
Earlier this year, she announced her involvement with OnlyFans, clarifying that her content would not be explicit, stating, “I’m doing OnlyFans to chat with my fans through dm’s. I won’t be posting any sleazy content. Excited to join.”
Bynes has also embraced a creative pursuit by hosting art exhibitions.
Last year, she collaborated with Austin Babbitt, a fashion designer and artist, for a show in Los Angeles.
