Sorry, mom, but you were wrong. Science said so.
The experts said it themselves — studies show that people with high IQ may be hiding behind a pile of dirty laundry instead of hamming it up at the Toastmaster’s Convention. Here’s why:
1. They swear like a sailor.
The common argument of non-swearing folk is that people who like to cuss do it because they have a limited vocabulary or lack intelligence. But in this new study by Language Sciences, the “poverty-of-vocabulary myth” is debunked with a series of tests which established that those who shared emotional characteristics with intelligent people were the most profane. The test results also showed that the subjects who could name the most swear words within a minute also tended to score higher on IQ tests.
2. They are night owls.
President Obama, sir Winston Churchill, and Marcel Proust, are all known for staying up til the wee hours of the night. It turns out they’re in good company, as a study published in Psychology Today points out. Scientists found that more intelligent children grow up to be night owls. Additional scientific research suggests that while early risers performed better in school, those who were more active at night grew up to be more successful in life. So if you were the kid that slept through study hall, chances are you’ll become the kind of adult who doesn’t rest until his dreams are within reach.
3. They practice “organized chaos”.
One well known mark of intelligence is untidy handwriting, as one of the greatest minds of our time, Leonardo Da Vinci, proves. But now, messy people everywhere have a go-to excuse for not cleaning up their working spaces. According to a study by the University of Minnesota, a cluttered desk indicates that the person’s mind is more focused on more productive things. And if that’s not all, psychological scientist Kathleen Vohs says: “Disorderly environments seem to inspire breaking free of tradition, which can produce fresh insights. Orderly environments, in contrast, encourage convention and playing it safe.” So if what science says is true, you need to drop that brush and leave that overturned cup on the table. You’ve got better things to think of.
