Hilary Duff recently shared a video of herself singing a provocative song and dancing in a field, appearing unbothered by the turmoil surrounding Ashley Tisdale’s viral essay.
Ashley Tisdale, known for her role in High School Musical, made waves this week with an essay detailing her decision to distance herself from a group of mom friends when it ceased to be ‘healthy and positive’.
The essay, written under her married name, Ashley French, did not specify any individuals, but that hasn’t stopped speculation about whom she was referring to.
According to People, the group is rumored to include several celebrity moms such as Hilary Duff, Meghan Trainor, and Mandy Moore, leading to fan conjecture about potential tensions and even an evident reaction from Duff’s husband on social media.
Despite the rumors, the 38-year-old actress and singer seemed unworried as she belted out the provocative lyrics of a song, likely from her forthcoming album Luck… or Something.

Representatives for French have dismissed suggestions that her essay was aimed at her celebrity mom friends, although the piece for The Cut didn’t explicitly clarify this.
Duff chose a light yellow dress for the snippet of her suggestive song, released on Wednesday (January 7), amidst the online buzz from French’s essay. The song narrates the intense beginnings of a romance, with Duff expressing, ‘I only want the beginning.’
Highlighting her departure from her Disney Channel persona, Duff candidly sings: “I want the part where you say goddamn/Back of a dive bar giving you head/Then sneak home late, wake up your roommates.”
The brief video maintains this candid theme, also touching on a relationship that appears to be losing its spark.
If the rumors about the mom group are affecting her, Duff doesn’t reveal it in her bold social media post. She continues with another revealing lyric: “I’m touching myself by the front door/But you don’t even look my way no more.”
Her carefree post starkly contrasts with her husband’s reaction to the situation. Matthew Kooma directly referenced French’s essay by sharing a parody version featuring an edited image of himself on the cover of The Cut.
He humorously titled the piece ‘A mom group tell all through a father’s eyes: When You’re the Most Self-Obsessed Tone Deaf Person on Earth, Other Moms Tend to Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers’.
Over the years, members of the celebrity mom group have often spoken about their cherished bond, including Duff, who told People in 2024: “They were little baby worms when we all first got together and started music class at my house.”
“Now, we’re in art class together, and we’re in gymnastics class together, and we’re just, like, moms.”
“Everybody’s super hardworking,” Duff added. “Sometimes we’re all showing up with hair and makeup rushing from a job, and sometimes we look like literal trash, so it’s just nice to be in the trenches with them.”
