Home Alone enthusiasts uncover surprising cost of Kevin McCallister’s Plaza Hotel stay today

Recreating Kevin McCallister’s legendary escapade to New York from Home Alone 2 might just break the bank…

In the sequel to Home Alone, Kevin, portrayed by Macauley Culkin, finds himself in New York alone after his parents misplace him at the airport once more (what are the chances?).

During his solo adventure, Kevin doesn’t hold back on spending. He checks into the opulent Plaza Hotel, indulging in room service to his delight, all charged to his father’s credit card.

Back in 1992, when the movie premiered, staying one night in a suite at the Plaza was reportedly $1,100. Fast forward to today, and that price has significantly skyrocketed.

As analyzed by iSelect.com, the same suite today costs a staggering $6,244, a dramatic 468 percent increase.

Kevin’s room service splurge, which was around $967 in 1992, would now total $2,233. Quite a hefty bill.

Even the price of a simple three-scoop ice cream sundae has jumped, now costing $24 compared to the previous $18.

These estimates don’t even include the costs of Kevin’s limousine ride around the city or any taxi fares he might have incurred visiting landmarks like Gapstow Bridge and the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

The twist? Had the McCallisters chosen to get travel insurance during Kevin’s solo journey, it’s unlikely the insurer would have covered the boy’s extravagant expenses.

Adrian Bennett, the general manager of General Insurance, stated via Fox News: “Unfortunately, a minor travelling alone without a parent or guardian’s knowledge would invalidate most travel insurance policies.

“In Kevin’s case, the lack of consent, the unauthorised use of a credit card, and the luxurious choices he made on his New York stay would not be covered. And remember, the best way to enjoy the holiday season is together, so make sure not to leave anyone behind… or home alone.”

While Home Alone 2 is a beloved holiday classic in many households, Macauley Culkin himself admitted that it doesn’t top his list of Christmas favorites.

During a recent ‘A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin’ event celebrating the 35th anniversary of the original Home Alone film, Culkin shared his preferred holiday movies.

“A big one in our household growing up was A Christmas Story, certainly was always on,” he shared. “A lost classic or one that people kind of forget: ScroogedScrooged is awesome though. Yeah, we watch it all the time. Those were ones that really stick out.”
