The Boulder City Fire Department have responded to an emergency at the Hoover Dam as videos on social media showed a large explosion and fire there.
An explosion at the dam’s base is visible in one video that was tweeted. The footage, which was taken from the top of the dam, shows a fire burning on the lower part of the structure and spewing smoke into the atmosphere.
Fortunately, the Boulder City Fire Department said the fire was put out by the time they got there.
According to a statement released by Jacklynn Gould, regional director for the Bureau of Reclamation, a transformer caught fire at around 10 a.m. local time, which was the source of the billowing smoke shown in the viral videos. According to Gould, there were no injuries from the incident and no harm done to the power grid. The bureau is investigating the issue further.
