Hotel employee shares eight tips on what not to do during your stay

While staying in hotels can often be an enjoyable escape, there are several important considerations to keep in mind, according to a hotel employee.

A front desk hotel worker has identified eight actions to avoid during a hotel stay.

You might find some of these recommendations surprising. It’s not just about maintaining cleanliness or avoiding spills on the carpet.

These insider tips are intended to enhance your overall hotel experience.

“I work a front desk at a hotel and I’m gonna read off a list of things you should not do as someone who is coming to visit a hotel,” the woman explained on TikTok.

Without further delay, here are eight things to steer clear of during your hotel stay.

“Do not show up the day after your reservation, thinking that you’re going to check in. It has gone into no-show and we no longer have that reservation,” warned TikToker @mamafromarkansas.

She mentioned that making reservations through a third party can complicate any changes you need to make. “Do not book third party, do not book with them… we cannot touch that reservation because you booked third party,” she stated.

Additionally, she emphasized the importance of verifying your booking dates yourself.

“Do not get mad at an employee, because you booked the wrong dates for the reservation – it’s not our fault and we send you a confirmation via email, so that’s your fault for not double checking,” she said.

When the hotel has no availability, asking repeatedly won’t change the outcome.

She advised: “If you call, and ask if we have availability on a certain date, and we tell you no, please don’t ask four more times… I’m looking right at the screen and it’s not giving me any inventory for those dates.”

“Please don’t bring your kids to an event and let them run a muck in the hotel and tear things up while you’re at the bar getting drunk,” she added.

It’s understandable to feel frustrated after a negative hotel experience, but writing a negative review without addressing the issue first is discouraged by the hotel employee.

“Please do not leave the hotel if you have issues and don’t let us know and then leave and give us a bad review. You did not give us an opportunity to fix your issue,” she said.

Researching a hotel’s amenities before booking is crucial to ensure it meets your needs.

“Do not book a reservation at a hotel if you have not looked at what amenities the hotel has offer,” she suggested.

Lastly, remember that hotel policies are in place for everyone, and thinking they don’t apply to you could lead to issues.

She cautioned: “Please do not be the person who thinks that policies do not apply to you.

“We have a 24 hour cancellation policy which means if you call the day of your reservation, you’re gonna’ get charged the late cancellation fee.”
