Howard Stern has reportedly struck a lucrative deal with HBO Max to stream his show.
The streamer will take video from his new once-weekly show and condense it into a series, according to a source familiar with the arrangement. “Stern will be doing the live shows strictly on Mondays,” the insider said, adding, “that’s why he isn’t starting this year on the Tuesday after Labor Day like he usually does.”
“This is a very strict schedule for him to be able to use that show’s video for HBO Max,” the source continued. The cable giant will “use the best of Stern’s three-hour live show each week, which will be condensed into either a 90-minute or an hour-long show to air on the subscription service later in the week.”
The reported deal comes on the heels of significant upheaval at Stern’s SiriusXM operation. His Howard 101 channel has been dropped from the lineup after approximately a dozen staffers were laid off earlier this summer. According to a channel lineup announcement from the broadcasting platform, “notable changes” include Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy moving from channel 102 to channel 101, “while Howard 101 leaves the lineup.”
The laid-off workers were sent home “immediately” after the call and offered severance packages based on how long they’d worked with the network.
Stern, 72, signed a three-year contract with SiriusXM in December 2025 that, according to him, would afford him “flexibility.” “I am happy to announce that I have figured out a way to have it all,” he told listeners at the time. “More free time and continuing to be on the radio.”
His previous five-year contract with the network was worth a hefty $500 million. The comedian’s wife, Beth Stern, later divulged on Andy Cohen’s Sirius show, “I think his new schedule is working out really well for him.”
The staffing cuts and channel elimination mark a dramatic contraction for an operation once known for its sprawling presence. The outlet exclusively reported that Stern’s show laid off approximately 12 staffers via Zoom as it dropped down to a single show per week.
Stern was sued earlier this year by an ex-assistant for allegedly creating a hostile work environment, but the lawsuit was dismissed “in its entirety” by a New York State Supreme Court judge in July. Nearly a month later, he surfaced in the Hamptons for a rare appearance with Beth for an event.
The HBO Max arrangement represents a new phase in Stern’s media footprint, trading daily broadcasts for a streamlined weekly production repurposed across platforms. Whether the condensed format can capture the freewheeling energy of his marathon broadcasts remains to be seen as the shock jock adapts to stricter scheduling demands.
Stern’s first Monday show under the new system is expected to launch after Labor Day.
