Who says coloring books are only for kids? Johanna Basford, a UK-based art illustrator certainly doesn’t think so. That’s why she created a series of coloring books for adults, which are now selling millions of copies worldwide.

Basford’s whimsical illustrations are inspired by her childhood memories of visiting her grandparent’s home in south-western Scotland.
“Every piece I create starts life as a simple pencil sketch, evolving into a rambling pen and ink drawing usually spanning several sheets of paper. I love the tactile nature of the materials I use and the joy of smudgy fingerprints.”
After opening a coloring book, a fairytale world unfolds, and the fun begins: “I create the artwork and the owner of the book brings the color.”
“A blank sheet of paper can be daunting, but a coloring book has the outlines already there, making it easier to pick up a pencil and begin making your mark.”
With fairytale forests, nymphs, beasts, and more to choose from, Basford lets adults enjoy coloring in a very grown-up way.
And it looks very fun indeed. I mean, who wouldn’t want to color that in?
Coloring this would be an incredible stress reliever.
Life was simpler when all you needed to have fun was a coloring book. And it still is, thanks to Johanna Basford. We look forward to her next awesome release!
