A jaw-dropping simulation illustrating the development of a baby inside a woman’s womb has captivated internet users everywhere.
Sex education in school familiarizes students with the process of conception and fetal development.
However, it seems that a large portion of the online community may have missed the details, as they were taken aback by a video depicting the growth of a baby inside the womb.
This simulation, shared on Instagram by ‘Mommy’s Touch’, chronicles the baby’s journey from the third week to the fortieth week of pregnancy.
Despite the video’s effective depiction of fetal growth, its visual representation has left many viewers in awe.
The clip gained viral status after being posted on Twitter by ‘non aesthetic things’, attracting numerous comments from intrigued viewers.
“No wonder why babies cry when they are born, Why wouldn’t they be as they are being pushed out of a warm cozy and peaceful world,” one user wrote.
Another remarked: “Poor intestines”, while someone humorously asked: “Bro, where is the Stork?”
Some viewers were left wondering: “how do they flip themselves?”, and another simply commented: “This is insane.”
So, what’s the scientific explanation behind it all?
Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters, as many are likely familiar with.
The first trimester covers the initial 12 weeks, during which the fertilized egg evolves from a cluster of cells to a fetus with distinct human characteristics.
Most pregnancies are discovered in the second month, often accompanied by a surge of hormones.
At the eighth week, the embryo is medically recognized as a fetus and will retain this designation until birth.
The third month, as shown in the video, is marked by rapid growth and development.
By week 12, the fetus has a biological gender, although this isn’t discernible on an ultrasound until later, as those eagerly awaiting the 20-week scan will know.
Growth continues from this point, with most expectant mothers beginning to feel fetal movements by the end of the fifth month.
To address one commenter’s curiosity, Spinning Babies notes that ‘between 24-29 weeks, most babies turn vertical and some will be breech. By 30-32 weeks, most babies flip head down and bottom-up’.
As pregnancy reaches 33 weeks, the fetus’s lungs are nearly completely developed.
The Cleveland Clinic describes the ninth month as ‘putting the finishing touch on growth and brain development’ in preparation for birth.
