Influencer explains why she chose a ‘Hunger Games-themed’ name for her daughter

An influencer has shared the unique name she chose for her child, sparking mixed reactions from her followers.

Choosing a baby name is a deeply personal decision, and there isn’t a definitive right or wrong choice when it comes to naming a child.

While some parents lean towards traditional names, others prefer more modern and unique choices.

Influencer and musician Rydel Funk recently stirred up conversation on her social media by revealing the name of her youngest child.

Rydel welcomed her daughter last year and announced the name to her online audience.

The mother of four named her daughter Sugar Lover, with her full name being Sugar Lover Funk.

Rydel explained: “Sugar Lover Girl is what my daddy has called me my entire life so basically he named her haha passing on my nickname to my baby Sugar!”

The name prompted a range of responses, with many expressing differing opinions.

One individual commented: “Sugar is a great nickname. It’s perfect for TV characters like Sugar Berzatto from ‘The Bear’ and Sugar from ‘Sugar Rush’.

“Calling your actual human child Sugar is not it, but it wouldn’t be the worst name on this list without the combo of Lover.”

Another person questioned: “Why, as a parent, would you name your child Sugar Lover.”

A third remarked: “So I guessed Sugar would be a name possibility but Sugar Lover?!”

And someone else added: “Every day we draw closer to the hunger games being a reality.”

Rydel is also a parent to three other children named Super, Sweetie, and Storm.

Some speculate that these names might be pseudonyms for privacy reasons, with one person writing: “I hope these are just names they use for social media. Sometimes I think influencers just pick crazy names online for the drama, but then have different legal names to give them some privacy. At least, one can hope.”

UNILAD has reached out to Rydel for comment.

Recently, Babycenter analyzed the top 1,000 names and identified those that have seen a decline between 2024 and 2025, uncovering some interesting trends.

They discovered that names with unconventional spellings and those inspired by geographical locations are falling out of favor.

Additionally, names starting with the letters D and K, as well as those ending in Y, are reportedly losing popularity.

Experts also forecast which names might become obsolete within the next year, with some surprising contenders on the list.

Girls’ names that may disappear include: Charleigh, Mckinley, Prisha, Ezra, Sasha, Mía, Kenna, Kori, Dior, and Shaikha.

Meanwhile, boys’ names that could vanish include: Kylian, Atharv, Enoch, Crue, Huxley, Salman, Camilo, Advik, Emmitt, and Garrett.
