An influencer lost his life on the operating table while preparing to get a new tattoo on his back.
Ricardo Godoi, hailing from Brazil, suffered cardiac arrest on Monday (January 20) at the hospital where he had scheduled a procedure involving general anesthesia for a large back tattoo.
The social media personality had engaged a tattoo studio which had reportedly collaborated with a private hospital equipped with the necessary tools, medical staff, and medications to safely conduct the procedure, according to The Sun.
Just before his appointment, the 45-year-old notified his 218,000 Instagram followers: “I’m about to undergo a surgical procedure and will only be back here after 4pm.”
Unfortunately, the procedure turned fatal, with his death being confirmed around noon the same day at Dia Revitalite Hospital in Itapema, Santa Catarina, as medics were unable to revive him.
The tattoo studio’s owner commented: “What happened was that, at the beginning of the sedation and intubation, he went into cardiac arrest. That occurred before they even started tattooing him.
“He was quickly checked and a cardiologist was called in to try to revive him, unfortunately without success.”
Ricardo was set to undergo a ‘full back tattoo’ under general anesthesia, with a private hospital hired for the medical aspects.
The studio’s statement included: “We also hired a doctor with a specialism in anaesthesiology and experience in intubation, whose documentation was approved by the hospital.
“Blood tests were requested beforehand, which showed no explicit risk in carrying out the procedure. Ricardo signed the consent form regarding the risk of the procedure.”
Police have initiated an investigation into his death, examining whether there were any mistakes in administering the anesthesia or any medical negligence involved.
Ricardo’s family reportedly claims he was in good health and had not used anabolic steroids for five months prior to the procedure.
His social media page released a statement confirming the heartbreaking news.
The message read: “It is with great regret that we inform you about the death of Ricardo Godoi yesterday at midday. At this painful moment, we show solidarity with his friends and family, wishing them strength and comfort to overcome this unbearable loss.
“Let Ricardo’s memory be remembered with affection and respect by those who had the privilege of knowing him.”
The influencer, who rose to fame through social media and established a successful business importing and selling luxury sports cars like Ferraris and Lamborghinis, leaves behind a wife and children.
Since his passing, many have paid tribute to Ricardo, describing him as an ‘incredible guy’ and ‘giant brother,’ and seeing him as an inspiration to younger generations.
“I can’t believe it, my God. I became friends with him seven months ago and it seemed like he had been my friend for 30 years”, one comment read.
Another added: “I can’t believe it… Godoi was purity,” another said.
