Ice-T has revealed how Taylor Swift’s surprise Emmys sketch came together behind closed doors.
The 68-year-old rapper and actor, who plays Fin Tutuola on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” said that producers summoned the cast to shoot a skit on Sunday for the Mariska Hargitay-hosted ceremony but kept them in the dark about the details. “I had no idea what it was,” he said. “And then when we got there, Taylor Swift was there.”
The production team imposed a strict gag order. Ice-T explained the cast was instructed not to tell anyone about Swift’s involvement, warning that any leak would have ruined the moment for viewers at home. The 36-year-old pop superstar arrived ready to work, reciting her lines for the cameras with the discipline of a veteran performer.
Once filming wrapped, Swift switched into amateur baker mode. “I got some cookies,” Ice-T shared. “I didn’t eat them yet. They’re in my dressing room. I don’t even know, should I eat them? Should I save them? Should I keep them as a memento?”
The actor praised Swift for taking time to chat with the entire ensemble, and he found common ground with her through their shared musical background. “I could tell after meeting her, she’s a very focused and professional person. Like anything she’s going to do, she’s going to do it to the fullest, and she handled it like a champ,” he added.
The sketch itself leaned hard into Swift’s well-documented fandom. Hargitay’s Olivia Benson led a brainstorming session about whether Travis Kelce’s wife would attend Monday’s awards show, with Swift’s own “Eras Tour” nominations having already been handled at the Creative Emmys earlier in the month.
Swift then appeared on camera alongside her real-life cat, which is named after Hargitay’s character, and poked fun at her own reputation. “She’s probably going to be at home playing with those cats she’s named after TV characters,” she joked.
After Hargitay’s Benson concluded Swift would likely be at Arrowhead Stadium watching Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs face the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, Ice-T’s Tutuola delivered a deadpan punchline: “Well if she’s not there, I’m not watching.”
Swift did indeed skip the Emmys for the game, watching the Chiefs’ 31-10 victory from a VIP suite alongside Tom Cruise, 64.
The crossover between Swift and the “SVU” universe has deep roots. Swift and Hargitay, 62, first crossed paths at the Met Gala, and their friendship solidified after the singer gave the actor a ride home from an Ingrid Michaelson concert. Hargitay later attended Swift’s wedding to Kelce at Madison Square Garden on July 3. Swift, a devoted “SVU” viewer, had previously recruited Hargitay to appear in her “Bad Blood” music video.
Ice-T, who released his “Criminal Migraine” album in August, made clear the door remains open. Swift would “absolutely” be welcomed back to set with open arms, he said.
