Inside the Bitter Family Feud Brewing Behind Dolly Parton’s $450M Estate Drama

Bryan Seaver, Dolly Parton’s nephew and former head of security, has spoken out after he and his children were excluded from a CMA tribute to the late country legend.

Seaver, who was fired from his post shortly before Parton’s Aug. 25 death at age 80, claimed on Facebook Thursday that the rest of his family received invitations to Wednesday’s memorial show while he and his kids were explicitly told to stay away. “What a beautiful tribute. I was not invited. Nor was my daughter, Dolly’s songwriting guitar playing, claw hammer finger pickin progeny,” he wrote. “The rest of my entire family was invited. A few attended. My kids and I were told not to attend. Such is life…”

The snub comes amid an escalating legal fight that has split the Parton clan. Danny Nozell, Parton’s longtime manager who runs She’s Alive, LLC, filed suit against Seaver in September and requested a restraining order, alleging Seaver used threats of violence to demand money. According to the filing, Seaver invoked “his self-proclaimed military-contractor experience, access to weapons and capacity for violence” in messages sent weeks before Parton’s death.

Screenshots in the court documents show Seaver allegedly threatened to “ratf–k every [Dollywood business partner] entity [he] can possibly conjure.” In another message, he reportedly wrote, “Her money better be bigger than I can make elsewhere or I’m going to f–k everyone. I am about to become the hand of retribution for my entire family.” Nozell argued these texts represented a “direct threat to sabotage a core business relationship and to use public exposure as a weapon against SAL and its partners.”

The company’s employees stopped coming into the office due to fear over Seaver’s alleged messages, Nozell claimed in the filing. The outlet also reported that Seaver allegedly “menaced and intimidated” staffers at Parton’s SongTeller Hotel and Life of Many Colors Museum, and sent one employee an expletive-filled email calling them a “f–king s–tbag loser” while threatening that his lawyers would “start f–king you up the ass.”

Family tensions surfaced publicly when Danielle Parton, the singer’s niece who was just named official brand ambassador for Dolly’s estate, responded sharply to an Instagram comment comparing Seaver to her father. Under a video she posted titled “crazy dad story,” a user wrote, “I guess we see where Bryan Severs [sic] gets it from now.” Danielle fired back, “If we’re gonna be friends, you will not be comparing Bryan Seaver to my daddy.”

An insider familiar with the family dynamics said that several relatives privately oppose Seaver despite public shows of support. “Things with Bryan seem to be bad in the family,” the source said, noting that “publicly, most are defending him, but not all.” The informant called Seaver a “fraud” and claimed Parton herself had grown wary of his expanding influence over her decades-long security detail. “[Dolly] eventually realized he was becoming too powerful and that maybe his intentions weren’t great, but she didn’t know how to approach that,” the source said, describing the star as “wasn’t a confrontational person.”

The family’s reluctance to air grievances openly stems partly from protecting Parton’s legacy, according to the same source. “The family is generally quiet about internal matters. Part of it is probably to protect Dolly and preserve the family name,” the informant explained.

Seaver’s attorneys pushed back against Nozell’s allegations earlier this month, saying that “while the family was grieving, the business manager went to court and the media with a surprising and incomplete story,” They added, “Seeing text messages that are misleading and taken out of context has been very hurtful to our client and his family.”

Yet another source previously suggested Nozell may have his own agenda in targeting Seaver. “He wants the family out of the picture and wants to turn her house into Graceland,” that source claimed, adding that the Grammy winner had been the moral compass of her businesses and “Danny doesn’t have the heart that Dolly did.”

Seaver and Danielle Parton did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the widening rift. Seaver was the person who announced Parton’s death following a secret and brief battle with cancer, making his estrangement from the formal memorial proceedings particularly striking.

The next hearing in Nozell’s case against Seaver is scheduled for Nov. 3.
