Recent events have unfolded involving Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, following her shooting by police and subsequent arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.
The incident took place on Tuesday, April 8, when the Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock became the focal point of police activity due to reports of a hit-and-run on the 134 Freeway.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that three suspects fled the scene of the crash, entering a residential area at approximately 3:25 pm PT. This triggered a large-scale search operation by the California Highway Patrol.
During their search for the suspects, officers encountered Jillian Shriner, allegedly holding a handgun outside her home.
Although Jillian, 51, may not have been directly linked to the hit-and-run, she reportedly did not comply with police requests to drop her weapon, despite being asked multiple times.
Reports indicate that she subsequently pointed the gun at the officers.
The officers then fired, hitting Jillian in the shoulder, as reported by TMZ. After being shot, she retreated into her house before re-emerging and surrendering alongside another woman.
This woman was later identified as the family’s babysitter. A search of the home revealed a 9-millimeter handgun.
Jillian has been charged with attempted murder following the altercation with police.
The LAPD confirmed that no officers or civilians were injured during the incident and that Jillian was not connected to the hit-and-run.
According to KLTA, both Jillian and the babysitter have been released from police custody.
Jillian and Scott Shriner were married in 2005. Scott became a member of Weezer in 2001, stepping in for Mikey Welsh.
The couple has since adopted two children and Jillian has been open about their fertility challenges.
In a 2015 blog post on Motherhood Later, Jillian shared: “On paper, I might not be considered the best candidate for motherhood.”
“My husband Scott and I had a long and circuitous road to parenting, including the whole painful infertility thing. We eventually found the right path for us and adopted our son [Tariku] from Ethiopia.”
