Apple appears to be postponing the launch of its second-generation iPhone Air, which is the company’s slimmest model yet.
This 5.6 mm thick smartphone was introduced to the market in September, alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Despite its thinness, which is comparable to the height of three stacked US quarters, the phone is reportedly Apple’s most robust iPhone to date. It’s constructed using aerospace-grade aluminum and reinforced glass.
In terms of battery performance, the iPhone Air has not compromised, offering an ‘all day’ battery life with up to 40 hours of video playback, surpassing some of Apple’s bulkier models.
However, the iPhone Air comes with a single lens rear camera, diverging from the typical three-camera trend found in most iPhone models.
“Our intention was to make an iPhone that feels like a piece of the future, powerful, yet so thin and light it seems to disappear in your hands,” the company stated.

The device starts at $999, just $100 less than the iPhone 17 Pro, which boasts superior battery life and a triple lens rear camera.
Additionally, some users have noted that the Air’s USB-C port seems misaligned, while Samsung joked that the new device still lacks the ability to fold.
Samsung introduced the first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, in September 2019.
It appears that iPhone users remain unconvinced, prompting Apple to reportedly delay the launch of its second-generation iPhone Air.
The updated model, initially set for a fall 2026 release, is said to have been postponed due to underwhelming sales figures.
The next version was expected to be even lighter, with a bigger battery capacity and a laser-welded vapor chamber designed to ‘efficiently move heat away from the A19 Pro chip, allowing for even higher sustained performance’, according to Apple.

If you were eagerly awaiting the new release, you might have to wait until spring 2027, according to reports from The Information.
The publication further notes that Apple has already ‘sharply scaled back production’ of the initial iPhone Air model. A concerning development indeed.
Apple’s fall 2026 lineup is now expected to include the iPhone 18 Pro and, potentially to compete with Samsung, a rumored first foldable iPhone.
The spring 2027 offerings may feature the iPhone 18, iPhone 18E, and possibly the second-generation iPhone Air.
If it hasn’t been discontinued by then, that is…
