‘Intense and Heartbreaking’ Netflix Mini-Series Watched for 19 Million Hours, Topping Charts

A mini-series on Netflix has captivated viewers, being binge-watched for a staggering 19 million hours.

The vast library of TV shows on Netflix includes everything from gripping dramas based on true stories to hard-hitting true crime documentaries.

However, a new series has grabbed the attention of fans, who are devouring it in just one day.

Data from FlixPatrol reveals that this TV series is currently leading the global charts on Netflix, with over 19 million hours watched since its release on November 7.

Trailing behind in the rankings are season five of The Witcher and the newest edition of Squid Game: The Challenge.

Interestingly, this ’10/10′ drama features Squid Game‘s Lee You-mi. She made history as the first Korean actress to win an Emmy for her role as Ji-yeong, also known as Player 240, in the popular Netflix series.

The series stars Lee as Jo Hui-su, a former children’s writer, who reconnects with Jo Eun-su, a salesperson at a high-end department store.

Hui-su finds herself in an abusive marriage, while Eun-su struggles with trauma from a turbulent past.

Together, they devise a plan to kill Hui-su’s husband, Noh Jin-pyo, played by Jang Seung-jo of The Good Detective. However, as the plot unfolds, their seemingly foolproof plan spirals out of control when a figure from their past reemerges to threaten them.

This TV series, titled As You Stood By, is adapted from the novel Naomi & Kanako by Japanese author Hideo Okuda.

Previously, a Japanese TV adaptation of the story was released in 2016.

On IMDb, one viewer rated the show a perfect 10/10, calling it a ‘masterpiece.’

“People should watch this type of series more often so we don’t get lost in fantasies and forget what’s happening in the world,” they remarked.

Another viewer described it as ‘raw and devastating,’ saying: “This series is dark… Not just visually, but deep down, psychologically and emotionally.”

They confessed to being ‘instantly yanked in’ by the narrative.

“I was completely obsessed with the main character’s life,” they continued, complimenting the series’ ‘brilliant’ storyline and ‘grounding’ performances.

A third viewer mentioned they ‘binged the whole thing in one day,’ adding, “That should tell you everything.”

They further commented: “Thrilling, captivating, and honestly enthralling from the get-go. The story reels you in at pace and doesn’t let go; every episode leaves you wanting more.”

As You Stood By is available for streaming on Netflix now.
