Interabled Couple Shane and Hannah Burcaw Post New Pregnancy Video After Sharing Intimacy Truth

Shane and Hannah Burcaw have shared a new video of the expectant father feeling his unborn baby kick.

The interabled couple, who married in September 2020, announced last month that Hannah, the able-bodied half of the pair, is pregnant with their first child. Shane, who lives with spinal muscular atrophy and uses a wheelchair, posted the milestone moment to their shared social media channels. The baby is due in January.

In the September 8 pregnancy announcement on Instagram, the couple wrote: “We are beyond ecstatic to announce that we’re expecting our first child this coming January! Hannah is 20 weeks pregnant and although we’ve been thoroughly enjoying this special time in privacy so far, we’ve also missed sharing all the joy with you, and there’s so much to share.”

The kick-feeling video marks a personal victory for Shane, who had privately worried whether his limited mobility would allow him such moments. He took to Facebook earlier to voice those fears in raw detail.

“One of my biggest worries about having children is the extent to which I’ll be able to physically interact with them,” he wrote. “I know and believe that parenting and love do not require physical ability, but I still grapple with those deep down anxieties at times, especially as our baby began kicking in Hannah’s womb a few weeks ago.”

Shane continued: “I hoped, but didn’t know for certain whether, I’d be able to reach my arms far enough to feel the kicking myself.”

The couple, known online as “Squirmy and Grubs,” have built a following by documenting their daily life and defying assumptions about disability and relationships. A recurring theme in their content is the persistent questioning of their physical intimacy, which they have addressed directly.

“We’re seen as asexual beings,” Shane said in one such discussion. Hannah then pressed him on why, asking if people assumed his “physical organs” don’t work.

“Well that,” Shane continued. “They see my attraction, my ability to attract a parter as non-existent.”

Hannah added her own frustration with the speculation: “And even if you did, it wouldn’t work. There’s no physical way – because we get a lot of like, ‘there’s no physical way that they could, so they’re lying.'”

The pair have since turned their focus toward preparing for parenthood, including seeking guidance from other interabled couples. In a recent interview, Shane shared what has eased his mind.

“One thing that has made me feel good is that they are reminding me that so much of parenting is not the physical stuff,” he told the magazine. “A human being, yes, needs physical care as a baby, but a lot of parenting is about the mind and emotions and learning and love.”

The couple first connected after Hannah reached out online, and their relationship quickly drew public attention for challenging stereotypes about disability and romance. Their wedding in 2020 and subsequent years of content creation have kept them in the public eye, with the pregnancy representing their next major chapter.

Shane and Hannah’s baby is expected in January.
