Jaden Smith’s latest “house tour” has sparked backlash online — largely because there isn’t an actual house involved.
Rather than showing off a property, the actor and self-styled fashion risk-taker unveiled a house-shaped Louis Vuitton handbag.
As the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Jaden has long been a high-profile celebrity kid, and he’s built a reputation over the years for boundary-pushing outfits — from skirts to unusual cuts and silhouettes.
But reactions suggest some viewers are tiring of the shock-factor approach, with critics saying they’re ‘over’ him trying to reinvent fashion.
The accessory driving the debate is a Maison de Famile bag inspired by the 19th century country home where the designer once lived. That historic house still exists today in Asnières-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris.
Unsurprisingly, it carries a massive price tag. The mini house-style piece is listed on Louis Vuitton’s Hong Kong website for HK$375,000 — around $47,912.10 USD.
At the Louis Vuitton show during Paris Fashion Week, Jaden appeared thrilled to present the item. “I got this new amazing bag here,” he told Vogue.
“We got a freakin’ balcony on it, owl on it. It’s insane detailed. Everyone did insane work on it.”
He then unfastened the bag to show the interior, including its neatly built-in drawers.
Online, though, many weren’t sold.
“That’s not a bag, that is a dang jewelry box,” one person on TikTok commented.
“That looks like an advent calendar,” someone else complained.
“That’s a ridiculous accessory,” someone else mused.
A fourth person quipped: “Darn, I lost my keys, let me just open the 20 compartments to see where I put them.”
One unimpressed viewer summed it up bluntly: “It’s a doll house”.
Another commenter suggested it felt childish, writing: “I’m too grown up to carry my dollhouse with me.”
Another joke: “I know it costs more than my house.”
Not everyone joined the dogpile, though, and some people defended him.
One commenter pushed back at the criticism, asking: “Why are we all judging? He’s happy, leave him to it.”
Others leaned into the novelty. “That’s really dope actually,” one person wrote, while another added: “Tbh I love the creativity.”
A final supporter even praised Smith’s enthusiasm, commenting: “He is so proud I love it.”
