Jake Paul shares grim health update two months after Anthony Joshua knockout

Jake Paul has given fans a fresh update on his health, two months after being knocked out by Anthony Joshua in their major Netflix bout.

The two faced off in December, and Joshua ultimately dominated the contest, stopping Paul with a knockout in the sixth round.

The damage from the fight left Paul with a broken jaw, requiring emergency surgery to repair it. But even after weeks of recovery, he says the injury hasn’t healed the way he expected, and he’s continued to have problems.

Because of those lingering issues, the 29-year-old has now revealed he needed to undergo a second operation in an attempt to fix what’s been going wrong since the bout.

“Had to get another jaw surgery. The screws and plates were coming loose because apparently I didn’t rest for the past 2 months whaattttttttt,” Paul lamented to his followers on Instagram.

He accompanied the update with a series of clips and photos showing him preparing for the procedure, being taken in via wheelchair, and a look at what his mouth is expected to look like after the operation.

The second surgery comes just two months after Paul first went under the knife to treat the break immediately after leaving the arena. Rather than appearing for the standard post-fight media duties, he was taken straight to hospital so doctors could set his jaw and lower the chances of long-term complications.

At the time, Paul said the initial procedure was successful and shared a message to supporters soon after waking up.

“Just got out of surgery. Everything went smooth. Thanks for all the love. Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days,” he wrote in the immediate aftermath of his fight with Joshua.

“S/o to the amazing team at Miami University hospital. Everyone was so gracious and caring. @ArmaniiJayy took amazing care of me with @iam_loriv.”

While Paul didn’t come away with a win, Joshua spoke positively about him afterwards, applauding him for taking on a former heavyweight champion despite having far less experience at the top level.

“Jake Paul has done really well tonight, I want to give him the props. He got up time and time again,” he said after the fight.

“It was difficult in there for him, but he kept trying to find a way. It takes a real man to do that. You have to give Jake credit for trying, but he came up against a real fighter tonight.”
