Jason Momoa has shared insights about the challenges many stars encounter while working in TV and film.
For those not fortunate enough to secure continuous roles in Hollywood, there can be periods without employment.
Earlier this year, Euphoria star Nika King revealed she was “unable to pay rent” due to the unforeseen gap between filming seasons of the popular HBO show.
The second season concluded in November 2021, with production for the much-anticipated third season slated to begin next year.
Similarly, Sopranos favorite Drea de Matteo had to resort to OnlyFans to support her family after her acting opportunities dwindled.
Jason Momoa is also familiar with these struggles, having fallen “completely in debt” when his work dried up after his appearance in Game of Thrones.
Momoa played Khal Drogo, the husband of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), in the hit series.
However, adhering to George R. R. Martin’s books, Drogo’s character dies due to an infection and is written off at the end of the first season.
With his character’s demise, Momoa found himself without employment.
Discussing his home life with his now-estranged wife Lisa Bonet and their children post-show, the actor told InStyle magazine in 2020: “We were starving after Game of Thrones.”
He added: “I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.”
However, Momoa’s fortunes changed after he was cast as Aquaman in the Justice League alongside Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot in 2016.
Since then, two stand-alone Aquaman movies have been released.
In addition to his role in the DC Universe, Momoa has appeared in major films like Braven, Dune, and Fast X.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Momoa now has an estimated net worth of $40 million, a significant improvement from his days of financial struggle and difficulty in securing acting roles.
In addition to his post-Game of Thrones challenges, Momoa revealed he was “homeless” following his split from Lisa Bonet.
The couple announced their separation in 2022, and Bonet officially filed for divorce earlier this year.
Despite being technically homeless, Momoa claimed he was enjoying life on the road during this period and was on his way to New Zealand to film his upcoming movie, Minecraft, which recently released its first trailer.
