JD Vance is honoring Charlie Kirk in an unexpected manner.
Prior to the tragic assassination of the 31-year-old activist, Vance and Kirk shared a close friendship. The vice president, along with his wife, accompanied Kirk’s casket on a flight to Arizona the day following his death.
Heartfelt images captured their arrival in Phoenix, showing Kirk’s grieving wife Erika being comforted by second lady Usha Vance, who held her hand for support as they stepped off Air Force Two.
Erika has publicly addressed her husband’s untimely passing for the first time. In a livestream from Turning Point USA’s office, the 36-year-old spoke about how deeply Kirk loved her and their two children.
“He loved America, nature, and the Chicago Cubs baseball team,” she said.
Erika continued: “But most of all, Charlie loved his children. And he loved me. With all his heart. And he made sure I knew that every day.”
Erika also pledged to continue her husband’s legacy by carrying on with his ‘The American Come Back Tour’.
Before his death, Kirk hosted his own podcast titled The Charlie Kirk Show, which offered listeners an ‘inside scoop on the biggest news of the day and what’s really going on behind the headlines’.
According to the podcast’s description, Kirk provided his ‘signature no-holds-barred, unapologetically conservative, freedom-loving point of view’ on the show.
The last episode featuring Kirk aired on the day of his death.
To pay his respects, Vance is set to host an episode of Kirk’s podcast, which will be broadcast at 12.00pm ET today (September 15).
The VP announced on Twitter: “Tomorrow, I will have the honor of hosting the Charlie Kirk Show. Please join me as I pay tribute to my friend.”
Many have expressed gratitude towards Vance for continuing the work Kirk was passionate about after his passing.
“Thank you VP @JDVance for continuing to honor Charlie’s legacy,” one person commented, adding: “Missing Charlie everyday, it’s hard to find words.”
“Thank you @JDVance. We appreciate you so much,” another person said.
Someone else wrote: “You’ve been remarkable this past week. You and your wife have enhanced the office of VP with quite dignity and humanity. This is a fitting tribute.”
