JD Vance’s Unusual Response to Questions About Succeeding Trump

Numerous individuals are commenting on Vice President JD Vance’s expression when questioned about the possibility of succeeding Donald Trump as President in 2028.

Due to the 22nd Amendment, Trump is unable to run for president again in the upcoming election, which restricts individuals from serving more than two terms.

For many Republicans, VP Vance is seen as a natural successor, and recently, Trump was asked by CNBC who he considers his ideal successor.

Vance was immediately brought up—a suggestion that the president seemed to endorse.

“In all fairness, he’s the vice president,” Trump said. “And he would be probably favoured at this point.”

Vance appears enthusiastic about the idea of possibly becoming president eventually, suggesting that he has discussed it with the president himself.

While talking with Kristen Welker on Meet the Press Sunday for NBC News, the vice president acknowledged that the 2026 midterm elections are the current focus, but he also touched upon future possibilities.

He stated: “I see myself as a vice president who’s trying to do a good job for the American people, Kristen. And if I do a good job, and if the president continues to be successful, as I know that he will be, the politics will take care of itself. We will cross that bridge when we come to it.

“Before we talk about anything three-and-a-half years down the road, let’s take a break from politics, focus on governing the country and when we return to politics it’s gonna be to focus on those midterm elections.”

Welker proceeded to ask Vance directly if he envisions Trump ‘passing the torch’ to him in 2028.

The VP responded with a laugh and a broad smile, saying: “As you know, the president talks about everything. And if it’s in the news, the president and I have certainly discussed it.”

Vance’s seemingly unusual reaction to the question of replacing Trump has been noted by many online.

Trump has participated in numerous interviews where he hinted at a potential run in 2028. He previously told MSNBC: “I have never had requests so strong as that. But it’s something to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do.

“There are many people selling the 2028 hat, but this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to having four great years, and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.

“A great Republican to carry it forward. But I think we’re going to have four years, and four years is plenty of time to do something really spectacular.”
