Despite Jeff Bezos having an almost $190 billion net worth, the Amazon founder reportedly leads a relatively ‘normal’ life.
Bezos established Amazon in 1994 and initially faced ridicule for admitting the site wasn’t profitable. However, at 60 years old, Bezos has indeed had the last laugh; Amazon is now valued at over a trillion dollars.
Many might assume that a person with Bezos’ wealth would indulge in a luxurious lifestyle, but his fiancée Lauren Sanchez asserts that they live a ‘normal’ life.
“Our lives are pretty normal,” she told Vogue last year. “Daily life mostly revolves around our kids.”
Bezos has four children with his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, whereas Sanchez has two children with her former husband Patrick Whitesell and a son with her ex-partner Tony Gonzalez.
Sanchez’s eldest child Nikko, 23, mentioned that it’s challenging to beat Bezos at chess.
He remarked to Vogue about their blended family: “Everyone really just gets along. There’s no real alliances. It’s kind of boring in that way.”
Elaborating on their ‘normal’ daily routine, Sanchez mentioned that they have an agreement where the first person to wake up makes the coffee.
The couple also exercises together, with Sanchez describing Bezos as a ‘monster in the gym’.
Additionally, the 54-year-old shared that the family eats dinner together every night without exception, after her kids’ piano and tutoring lessons.
While some of Sanchez’s children still reside at home, all of Bezos’ offspring are attending college.
The article received some criticism, with some suggesting that Bezos was ‘cosplaying as a working-class stiff’.
Commenting on a photo from Sanchez and Bezos’ Vogue photoshoot, critics said: “America is amazing. A man who was once the richest person alive still feels the urge to cosplay as a working class stiff. Can you imagine, like, a Saudi oil sheikh or a Russian oligarch dressing up for a photoshoot as a humble ranch hand? Incredible.”
“It’s funny how you can tell they just started watching Yellowstone,” another person quipped regarding their country-themed shoot.
Others on Reddit observed that it’s quite a privilege to have family dinner together every night.
One person fumed: “You know what got me f**ked up reading that article? That they have the luxury of family dinner every night together and home cooked meals. […] A lot of families are lucky to have one day off per week all together.”
