MacKenzie Scott is contributing money at an unprecedented rate, substantially more than her ex-husband Jeff Bezos, and has received an additional boost after selling her Beverly Hills property for $37 million.
Her total charitable contributions to date are $14.4 billion, greatly surpassing Bezos’ lifetime contributions of $2.4 billion.
The land was bequeathed to the California Community Foundation, and the sale earnings would be divided and provided to fund affordable housing grants and an immigrant integration program.
The figure is a pittance compared to the $2 billion Scott has given out in the previous seven months.
The 2.5-acre Beverly Hills estate features a 12,000-square-foot main home, characterized as a Spanish hacienda-style mansion built in the 1990s. A 4,500-square-foot guesthouse is also available. There are 14 baths and 13 bedrooms.
There is also a lap-lane swimming pool, a full-size tennis court, patios for outdoor gatherings, and parking for hundreds of automobiles on the site.
Scott was married to billionaire Bezos for 25 years until divorcing him in 2019 with a quarter interest in Amazon valued roughly $38 billion.
She has pledged to contribute at least half of her fortune over her lifetime.
On Monday, Bezos, a $124 billion billionaire and the world’s fourth richest person, announced that he will give away his entire fortune. He had previously been chastised for amassing tremendous wealth as Amazon workers experienced harsh working conditions and for not vowing to give away his money.
