Jennifer Aniston reveals why Matthew Perry’s passing is ‘better’ for him in emotional statement

In a recent interview, Jennifer Aniston openly discussed the addiction struggles and passing of her fellow “Friends” co-star, Matthew Perry. Best known for her portrayal of Rachel Green on the beloved sitcom, Aniston holds a special place in the hearts of many fans.

The unexpected death of Matthew Perry, another central figure from “Friends,” deeply affected those who followed the show. Perry was discovered unresponsive in his hot tub at his Los Angeles residence on October 28, 2023.

The autopsy report indicated that Perry’s death was primarily due to ‘acute effects of ketamine.’ Additionally, drowning, coronary artery disease, and the influence of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid use disorder, were noted as contributing factors.

In her conversation with Vanity Fair, Aniston reflected on the efforts she and her co-stars made to support Perry in his battle with addiction.

Aniston remarked, “We did everything we could when we could.”

She continued, “But it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better.”

In a heartfelt conclusion, she added, “I’m glad he’s out of that pain.”

In the wake of Perry’s death, fans took to social media to express their sorrow and pay tribute. Many shared that they would find solace in watching “Friends,” though they acknowledged the show would now carry a different sentiment.

In response to the news, Aniston and her co-stars David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Courteney Cox issued a joint statement expressing their grief: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

They continued, “In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
