Jennifer Lawrence Sent Robert De Niro Home Before Her ‘Stressful’ Wedding Day

Jennifer Lawrence has shared details about her challenging experience as a bride, including her encounter with Robert De Niro on her wedding day.

Lawrence married Cooke Maroney in 2019, after a year of dating, with a ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island.

The actress from Silver Linings Playbook confessed that her wedding day turned out to be more ‘stressful’ than she had anticipated.

During a conversation with E!News at the Golden Globes in December 2023, the 34-year-old described her wedding day as ‘awful’.

She elaborated: “It’s so stressful. You’re not having fun. You’re just like, ‘Is that person having fun?'”

Lawrence found herself fixating on whether her guests were enjoying themselves and whether everything was going smoothly.

“I’ll never forget—I was freaking out about the guests being cold,” she added, “And all of my friends were lying they’re like, ‘Nobody’s cold, nobody’s cold, everything’s fine, everything’s fine.'”

Her guest list included celebrities such as Adele, Amy Schumer, Emma Stone, and Kris Jenner. Despite assurances from friends, the situation was not entirely fine.

Lawrence’s mother, Karen, eventually confessed it was ‘freezing’, informing her daughter: “Your grandmother almost died.”

The tension extended beyond the wedding day itself, as Lawrence was equally concerned about guests at her rehearsal dinner.

Robert De Niro was among the attendees for that event, but Lawrence seemed to second-guess her decision after his arrival.

She recounted: “I looked over and I saw Bob, who doesn’t know anybody and he’s kind of wandering around, and I immediately was like, ‘No, this isn’t what he wants to be doing. I don’t want him here’.

“So I went over and whispered, I was like, ‘Go home’ and he was nice—he like talked to my parents and was polite—but I was like, ‘Go.'”

Although De Niro could have chosen to stay, Lawrence revealed he respected her request and left.

“That just genuinely made me feel better,” the Hunger Games actress acknowledged.

While her wedding day wasn’t the perfect event she hoped for, it marked the beginning of her life with Maroney, which now includes their son, Cy.
