Jennifer Lawrence’s flawless reply to Emma Stone ‘outshining’ her for years in awards and roles

Hollywood has long been home to a number of intense acting rivalries, with legendary figures such as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, or action icons Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, vying for leading roles and prestigious accolades.

This week, a fresh rivalry seems to be emerging following the announcement of the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards nominations. Several notable stars were notably absent from the list, which is often a precursor for Oscar predictions.

Jennifer Lawrence, 35, was among the prominent names missing from the nominations for her compelling performance in *Die My Love*. In contrast, her long-time friend Emma Stone, 37, received recognition in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor category for her role in *Bugonia*.

As congratulations poured into Stone’s inbox, one response stood out in their group chat. Lawrence, reacting to the SAG nominations, sent a humorous message: ‘WHAT!’ accompanied by a sad face.

Known for her quick wit, Lawrence shared at 92NY that, “all her friends were like, ‘Congratulations Emma,'” while she humorously jabbed at her friend and frequent competitor in the industry.

Their rivalry dates back to early in Stone’s career, with Lawrence once being passed over for the role of Olive Pendergast in the 2010 film *Easy A* in favor of Stone. In a 2017 roundtable, Lawrence jokingly recounted her disappointment, saying: “I wanted it so bad,” and added humorously, “Well, guess what? You didn’t get it. You didn’t get it because you suck!”

Stone playfully responded, “Outside.”

Over the years, both actresses have risen to prominence as leading ladies and have formed a strong friendship, allowing Lawrence to tease Stone about her recent nomination.

Lawrence even joked about Stone’s success throughout the day, saying, “Every time she tries to talk today, I’m like, ‘Why are you not saying sorry?'”

Their initial introduction in Hollywood came courtesy of Woody Harrelson, who had acted alongside Lawrence in *The Hunger Games* and with Stone in *Zombieland*.

Lawrence recounted their first interaction in a 2016 interview with Entertainment Weekly, “She texted me that she got my number from Woody. I replied, ‘F— off!’ And we’ve been really good friends ever since.”

Despite Stone’s lack of a nomination not troubling her, Lawrence quipped during the 92NY phone call, “She’s been beating me for decades, but it’s an honor.”

Both actresses are currently in the running for prestigious acting awards at the Golden Globes. Their nominations are in different categories, with Lawrence vying for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a drama, while Stone competes for the same title in the musical or comedy category.

Stone will have to wait until March 1 to see if her role in *Bugonia* earns her the top award at the SAG’s new Actor Awards.
