Jennifer Lopez has once again addressed her breakup with Ben Affleck, making a candid statement about it.
The 56-year-old singer and actress initiated divorce proceedings in August of the previous year. Since then, she has made several remarks about her ex, who is a two-time Oscar winner. Her latest comments were made during an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, which aired recently.
J-Lo was on the program to discuss her upcoming film, “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” This movie is an adaptation of the Broadway musical, and she collaborated closely with her former partner, who is 53.
During a 35-minute conversation with CBS’ Lee Cowan, J-Lo was questioned about how she managed to balance her personal challenges with her professional commitments.
“It was tough, it was a tough time – it was a really tough time,” she admitted candidly.
The discussion then turned to Affleck’s role as a producer for the film, which is set to hit theaters on October 10.
J-Lo acknowledged, “The movie wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t for him and Artist Equity – and I will always give him that credit.”
She further praised Affleck for enabling her to portray “the role I was born to play.”
When asked by Cowan if immersing herself in the role provided solace during a difficult period, J-Lo responded affirmatively.
“Yes, 100 percent,” she said.
“It was hard not to think about stuff, but it was like the best and the worst of times in a way, because it was every moment on set and every moment I was doing this role.
“I was so happy and then it was like back home it was not great and it was just like, oh, you know, how do I reconcile this? But you get through it.”
She made a significant remark, “And you know, honestly, I have to say it was the best thing that ever happened to me because it changed me… it didn’t change me – it helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow, become more self-aware.
“I’m a different person now than I was last year, I think, a year-and-a-half ago.”
The love story between Lopez and Affleck began in 2002, when they became known as Hollywood’s “it” couple, often referred to as “Bennifer.”
After getting engaged, they ended their relationship in 2004. However, they reunited in 2021, nearly two decades later, and married in Las Vegas in 2022, followed by a second ceremony in Georgia.
Their union was short-lived as Lopez filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary, with court documents revealing they had separated a year earlier, in April 2023.
