Jessie J reveals Channing Tatum’s reaction to her apparent ‘explanation’ for their split

Jessie J has revealed how Channing Tatum responded to being mentioned in her latest album.

The couple ended their relationship in 2020 after dating on and off for two years. They had previously reconciled after a breakup in 2019.

A source close to the couple told PEOPLE at the time, “They cared enough about each other to try again but realized it was better to move on. It’s totally amicable.”

The British pop star recently released an album titled Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time, marking her return to the music scene.

The track ‘Threw It Away’ has generated buzz due to its potential allusion to the reason behind their split five years ago.

The lyrics include: “I put my heart out on the table, that’s when it got uncomfortable. But oh that karma is gonna come one day, ’cause I gave you my love and you threw it away.”

In the same song, Jessie J – whose full name is Jessica Ellen Cornish – also sings, “Don’t you dare rewrite the story. I’m the beauty, you’re the beast.”

Clearly, the lyrics carry significant meaning.

Jessie J spoke to Channing Tatum before the track was released to ensure he was comfortable with it.

“I played him the song to see if he’s OK with it, and he was,” she mentioned to The Guardian.

Even though their relationship ended five years ago, Jessie J still holds her former boyfriend in high regard, calling him ‘such a sweet guy’ in the interview. Last year, Tatum ended his engagement to Zoë Kravitz.

“Oh, he’s so sweet. Oh my God, yeah! Channing is such a sweet guy. We were such good friends and had such a good time together,” she shared.

The release of Jessie J’s new music comes amid her recent breast cancer diagnosis, a topic she spoke about this past summer.

She has already undergone one surgery and is expected to have a second operation.

In August, Jessie J, a mother of one, shared: “Some of you may know, some of you may not know, but I had breast cancer surgery 11 weeks ago today and the last show I did, I had no idea what was going to happen – and I’m still very much in the recovery process.”

The singer added, “I don’t know about you guys, but for me, music is a healer.

“Music is the thing that keeps me wanting to wake up in the morning and just makes me excited about life, and I’m grateful that I can make music that can give other people something that they might need on a hard day or a good day.”
