Jill Biden’s Secret Service agent accidentally shoots himself at the airport

A Secret Service agent assigned to Jill Biden accidentally shot himself in the leg at Philadelphia International Airport.

The incident happened on Friday (March 27) while the agent was on duty as part of Biden’s detail at the airport.

Although Biden was at the airport at the time, she was not with the agent when the shot was fired, Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring told PEOPLE.

The agent was taken to a nearby hospital. Herring said he “suffered a non-life-threatening injury following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon”.

“There were no reported injuries to any other individuals and the special agent is being evaluated at an area hospital in stable condition,” he added.

An investigation is now underway to determine how the weapon discharged and the precise sequence of events.

“The Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility will be reviewing the facts and circumstances of this incident,” the spokesperson added.

According to CBS, police said early information suggests the agent fired the weapon while inside an unmarked Chevrolet SUV near 1 PIA Way and the Pennsylvania Tower, outside Terminal C.

A witness also claimed the agent was trying to get back into the SUV when the gun went off.

Biden served as First Lady from 2021 to 2025 while Joe Biden was president.

Former presidents and first ladies continue to receive Secret Service protection for life after leaving the White House.

Current president Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized Biden’s term in office. In a recent remark, Trump said: “If you go back to Obama, he was a great divider. He divided this nation. He was a lousy president. The worst president in history was Biden. But Obama was a terrible president.”

The 79-year-old has continued to take aim at both predecessors, including by adding what some have described as ‘divisive’ plaques beneath their portraits along the White House’s Presidential Walk of Fame.

During the National Republican Congressional Committee’s fundraising dinner in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday (March 25), Trump also attacked the Democratic Party, arguing they ‘put America last’ while Republicans do the opposite.

“Republicans are the party for every hardworking patriot,” he continued. “And we do something very much different from them. We put America first.”
