A make-up artist has claimed to have impersonated Jim Carrey at a recent awards in Paris amid rumours that the actor had a ‘clone’ pretend to be him for the night.
On Thursday night (February 26), Carrey received an Honorary César in the French capital, an accolade handed out by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma.
The actor attended the ceremony with friends and family, but chatter quickly spread online after viewers pointed to his apparent “new look” and questioned whether it was really him — with some suggesting a stand-in had shown up instead.
After a clip circulated of Carrey speaking in an interview following the event, one user wrote on Twitter: “You can’t convince me they didn’t clone Jim Carrey.”
Another person added: “I could see Jim Carrey hiring a body double to see if anyone would notice. Seems very in character for him to do.”

A third comment read: “Clearly it’s not him. Doppelgänger? Sad attempt at a body double or clone? Will the real Jim Carrey please stand up?!?!”
Further speculation took off when make-up artist Alexis Stone — known for transforming into celebrities — posted an Instagram photo showing what appeared to be a prosthetic face resembling Carrey, alongside a set of teeth.
Stone captioned the image: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris,”
The upload prompted a wave of reactions across social media, including from Megan Fox.
She wrote in the comments: “I can’t handle any more stress right now i need to know if this is real.”
Others also demanded clarity, with one saying: “I need the real Jim Carrey to confirm,” while another admitted: “And I’m obsessed with the conspiracy.”
Despite the theories, both Carrey’s representative and Gregory Caulier, the César Awards’ general delegate, have stated that the Yes Man and Bruce Almighty star was genuinely present at the ceremony.
Separately, some have argued the prosthetic-mask image shared by Stone may have been created using AI.
In a statement shared with Variety, Caulier said: “Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.
“He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”
In a separate statement, his rep said: “Jim Carrey did attend the César Awards.”
