Jim Carrey has expressed an interest in reprising his iconic role as The Grinch, but he has a specific requirement that must be fulfilled first.
Nearly a quarter of a century has passed since Carrey portrayed the grouchy, green character in the 2000 film adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Despite the years, countless viewers worldwide consider it an essential part of their holiday tradition.
Close to 20 years following the film’s debut, a fan shared on Twitter: “The Jim Carrey version of the Grinch is a top-tier Christmas movie and I’m not saying you’re wrong if you disagree, but you definitely aren’t right.”
Since then, Carrey has explored a diverse array of roles, starring in films like Bruce Almighty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Kick-Ass 2.
He recently embraced the quirky character of Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog films. Carrey has now conveyed his willingness to return to the Grinch role, despite the passage of time.
During an interview with Comicbook.com, he was asked which of his characters he would be interested in revisiting.
Carrey brought up the Grinch, though he acknowledged one challenging aspect of the role.
He stated: “Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch. The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.'”
Although he is not eager to endure the makeup process again, Carrey noted that technological advancements could alleviate some of the more ‘excruciating’ parts of the role.
He elaborated on the conditions he would need to return, saying: “And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”
Carrey’s remarks coincided with his comments to the Associated Press regarding retirement, a topic he has previously considered.
When questioned about his ongoing involvement in major projects, Carrey humorously remarked: “I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”
The possibility of Carrey’s return to the Grinch role has generated excitement among fans. One enthusiast commented: “I speak for everyone when I say F***ING YES! Jim Carrey was iconic as the Grinch & the best live screen adaptation of Dr Seuss!”
