Joe Rogan and Tim Dillon have sharply criticized Katy Perry for her participation in the Blue Origin space trip.
Earlier this month, an all-female crew launched from West Texas and returned to Earth just 11 minutes later.
Alongside Perry, the crew included aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, activist Amanda Nguyễn, TV personality Gayle King, and journalist Lauren Sánchez, who is also Jeff Bezos’ fiancée.
This brief journey marked the first all-woman space crew since 1963, yet it has faced significant criticism regarding its intention.
On his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan did not shy away from expressing his views.
In conversation with Dillon, Rogan remarked: “I don’t know if you’ve seen Katy Perry talk about it, but she’s basically a guru now.”
He added, “Let’s not minimize this. Let’s celebrate female astronauts. A lot of male astronauts, they have to go to school, they have to learn how to be a pilot first, they have to join the air force or the navy and then they get appointed by NASA and then they go to space.”
Dillon replied: “There has been female astronauts…”
Rogan responded with sarcasm: “Let’s not minimize this. They’re profoundly different now.”
The two then watched a video of the crew discussing their trip post-landing, laughing at some of their remarks.
Dillon commented on a statement by Sanchez, saying, “It’s funny to hear the richest guy in the world’s wife say ‘we’re all in this together’, I don’t know if people feel that [sic].”
Dillon also addressed rumors suggesting the event was staged, saying, “I hope they fake something better than that.”
UNILAD has sought a comment from Perry’s representative.
The trip has sparked numerous conspiracy theories, with some alleging evidence that the mission was fabricated.
On X, users shared images comparing other capsules’ re-entry damage with Perry’s seemingly unscathed capsule.
Additionally, footage revealed someone inside the capsule opening the hatch before Bezos used a tool to open it from the outside, fueling claims of a hoax.
Another contentious point was the designation of Perry as an ‘astronaut,’ given her lack of formal training.
Among those challenging this label is Sean Duffy, Secretary of the US Department of Transportation.
Duffy shared his opinion on X, arguing that the crew lacked the necessary experience for space travel.
He wrote: “The last FAA guidelines under the Commercial Space Astronaut Wings Program were clear: Crewmembers who travel into space must have ‘demonstrated activities during flight that were essential to public safety, or contributed to human space flight safety’.
“The crew who flew to space this week on an automated flight by Blue Origin were brave and glam, but you cannot identify as an astronaut. They do not meet the FAA astronaut criteria.”
