John Cena Reveals How Hair Transplants Completely Changed His Life

John Cena has shared that undergoing two hair transplant procedures, totaling more than 20 hours in surgery, has had a major impact on his life.

In a People cover story published on Aug. 6, 2025, the WWE legend and actor said the procedures were part of a longer effort to treat the thinning hair he had been trying to hide for years. Hair loss is extremely common in men, and Cena has said he wanted to address it more openly after fans repeatedly drew attention to his bald spot.

“The objective is to get more hair, and this was the best way to do it, talking with Ken Anderson, my doctor over there,” he said, speaking with People.

He also had high praise for the specialist behind the procedures.

“I love the guy. He’s totally changed my life.”

Cena received treatment from Dr. Anderson at the Anderson Center for Hair in Georgia, and he was pleased enough with the outcome that he returned to have another area addressed.

“I went back to him like, ‘Man, you did great. I have this one small, small, small spot. Can you do it?’,”

He said the doctor suggested shaving his head to achieve the strongest possible result.

“He’s like, ‘I can. My best results are – if you’re bold enough to shave your head, I can keep the follicles'”

Cena described the surgeon as a “master” and said he followed that advice, leading to long hours in the operating chair.

He said: “My first operation was 13 and a half hours. The second one was eight hours.

“And I’m rocking this hair thing with the promise that he’s working. I have full trust and faith in him with this process.”

This is not the first time Cena has discussed the emotional side of hair loss, especially as someone constantly in front of large crowds and cameras.

In an earlier conversation with the outlet in 2025, he reflected on how public attention to his appearance pushed him to finally take action.

“As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light. I saw their signs that said, ‘The bald John Cena’.

“They pushed me into going to see what my options were and actually do some homework to learn about scalp health, hair health, follicle health.

“I now have a routine: red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner, and I also got a hair transplant.”

Despite being happy with the decision, Cena said there is one lingering frustration about waiting so long.

“I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago,” he confessed.

He added that learning how common thinning hair and baldness are among men helped him feel far more comfortable about seeking professional treatment.
