If you followed the Depp vs Heard defamation trial, you might remember the notable bond Johnny Depp shared with his lawyer.
Many speculated that Johnny Depp and his attorney Camille Vasquez were romantically involved during the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022.
The legal conflict began in 2018 when Heard penned an op-ed for The Washington Post titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”
Depp had divorced the 38-year-old actress a year before this statement, which implied she was subjected to domestic abuse.
After some years, they confronted each other in court in April 2022, with the trial spanning seven weeks and eventually leading to Depp’s victory.
Depp won all three counts against his former partner, although Heard successfully countersued and was awarded $2 million in damages, while Depp received $15 million.
This recounts the case’s history and how Vasquez, who reportedly ‘didn’t think that filing this lawsuit was a good idea,’ ended up defending her now 61-year-old former client.
But were they ever romantically involved?
The speculation was intense at the time, with some fans even sharing clips on TikTok of the pair’s courtroom interactions set to romantic music, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Addressing the rumors of a romantic relationship, Vasquez told Extra she first learned of it through her parents, who she said ‘knew definitively’ it wasn’t true.
She clarified: “I would never. Let me just go on the record here: never dated Johnny Depp. Never would date Johnny Depp. I think he’s a lovely person… he’s not my type.”
She went on to describe how she had only seen him onscreen ‘maybe’ once in the 2000 romantic comedy Chocolat, but never in ‘Pirates,’ referring to his iconic role as Jack Sparrow.
However, despite not frequenting his movies like many others, she admitted: “After maybe 30, 40 minutes of speaking with him, I remember having an out-of-body experience and looking at him and thinking, ‘He views the world so differently than I do.’
“He definitely uses a different part of his brain. He’s such an artist.”
In conclusion, while Vasquez and Depp had a clear rapport, they were never involved romantically.
